Built on the pilgrimage route to Compostella about 1168, under Henry II, Plantegenet. Burnt in 1195, and rebuilt in the 1400s, it was refashioned in the Renaissance style (under the influence of the Château de Gaillon). Main items to see: The Wall of the 'Sauvages' - a frieze representing people of the countries visited by the ships of Jehan Ango), carvings by seafarers returned from perilous journeys, the rose window, the statue of St James at the entrance (exterior), statue over the main altar, gargoyles, flying buttresses, flamboyant gothic style.
