Scene I. A summer afternoon, 1814. Deborah is testing Henry’s love by the time-honoured method of pulling the petals off a daisy.

Scene II. A summer evening, the present day. Deborah, dressed for motoring, impatiently awaits Henry. They are going to dine at the restaurant, but before they leave, he asks her casually to marry him.
