Professionalization

Professionalization may a bittersweet pill to swallow for some. But I hope you will welcome it!
Artists and students (some of them) may prefer a more casual approach to everything, including business.
Like it or not, you have to get your personal and business act together. Otherwise, you'll find yourself with a lot of leisure you don't welcome.
Self-professionalization is how business should be conducted. It's how you should go into the world of work. It's how you should network.
Professionalism means higher standards of presentation and communication. It means greater attention to business and marketing strategy.
If you have a handle on today's business practices, you will make yourself more effective and efficient.
Today's self-managing media wannabe needs to understand the rules governing this game.

BEING PROFESSIONAL means being punctual, calling when you're going to be late, following up, emailing in a business-like way, presenting your letters on suitable (even striking) stationery, and dressing appropriately.

Seek the education and training (and re-training) you need. Be current.

Are you an introvert? Improve your prospects by viewing networking differently - as a continuous process. Improve how you come across to others - develop the 'professional you', who can do things that the 'private you' cannot.

Networking - understand its true meaning and process. It isn't really about getting a job. It's about using shared interests to develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships.

Then, if you are looking for your first job, or the next job, these contacts will be there to help.

Networking becomes a life-long process.
