packages - you are a producer - COMMISSION and BRIEF
There are multi-skills involved in making a package.
You get your commission and your brief - if in the BBC from the Editor or Senior Producer. If you are an independent, you approach a radio station to get a commission. As a student, you approach a radio station - e.g. local and community stations, student radio stations, hospital stations, and find what stations are near you. You are aware of copyright, legal aspects, and editorial policy issues. RULE : YOU DO NOT MAKE A PACKAGE IN A VACUUM - without reference to radio protocols. For legal aspects in the BBC - see BBC web site for EDITORIAL GUIDELINES.
Also - taste and decency, standards, creativity, impartiality. These are sensitive areas - and you must refer up questions - to managers further up the line. E.g. referable words, problem subjects (drugs), interviewing convicted criminals.
FOR EXAMPLE: 'I want to interview a convicted criminal, but she has served her sentence. However, she wants money for the interview.'
SUCH ISSUES - YOU ASK YOUR TEACHER.
Commercial sector - not the same editorial policy guidelines as the BBC.
